I am
recruiting at least one postdoc (start date this September 2025; three years) for an ambitious funded project to
forecast climate tipping points probabilistically, as part of a collective effort within a broad ARIA programme (more context in
this The Guardian article).
Candidates with a strong background in computational statistics or statistical signal processing are preferred, especially with some climate modeling or data experience. Alternatively, deep expertise in climate model simulation is also considered, even with a less extensive statistical background. If you excel in both, please
contact me ASAP!
About Me
Short bio
I am a Professor with a Personal Chair in Statistics and Data Science at the School of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh. I received the degree in Telecommunication Engineering, the M.Sc. degree in Communication Technologies, and the Ph.D. in Statistical Signal Processing from University of Cantabria.
Interests
My research interests are in computational statistics, statistical signal processing, and probabilistic machine learning. My work covers diverse topics in these areas, including Monte Carlo methods, Bayesian inference in static and dynamical models, statistical modelling and inference in population ecology, signal processing for biomedical applications and wireless communications, among other applications. A significant part of my recent work focuses on importance sampling methodology, including sequential Monte Carlo (particle filtering).
